Advertising in Recessionary Times

Over the next few months, I will be posting some of my favorite articles about the ins and outs of marketing and advertising, but today I want to start with an article I've pulled out of my files many times over the last 17 years. This was first published by Dow Jones and Company in 1991 and I have used it as a mantra when times get tough. Remembering that the ulitmate goal is to grow your business...

THE BASIC ARGUMENT FOR ADVERTISING IN A RECESSION

When times turn bad, they're made worse by hesitation, halfway measures and panicky decisions. Such as the decision to reduce or eliminate advertising. The fact is, companies that maintain or increase their advertising spending during recessions get ahead. A less crowded field allows messages to be seen more clearly, and that increased visibility results in higher sales both during and after a recession....

The article continues to site studies by the American Business Press about the relationship between advertising and sales volumes and registers a great case for continuing to advertise and even increasing your advertising. I would be happy to share this with you and you company if you would like!

Adsage Advertising's mantra is "Sage Insight and Skilled Execution" and to that end I feel the need for Sage Insight in this marketplace is tantamount right now.

Stay with us for upcoming blogs and look forward to more in the upcoming weeks!
